HIKES
Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, a moderate, three- to four-mile hike to some interesting rock formations and great views overlooking the city. On Tuesday, a strenuous, seven-mile hike to a limestone peak behind the escarpment that includes a broad view of the Red Rock and Las Vegas area.
On Wednesday, a moderate four- to five-mile hike on Oak Creek along a well-used trail into the canyon to look for wildlife.
On Friday, a moderate three-mile hike to and around the base of the Calico Hills to Calico Two.
Around the Bend Friends: This group of people over 50, interested in hiking and related social activities, plans a three- to four-hour moderate hike each Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. To learn more about the group and the meeting place for the hike, contact 228-0773, or visit the club's Web site: www. aroundthebendfriends.com.
