HIKES

Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, join a geologist to discuss the rock formations, plants and animals encountered on a moderate, three-mile hike in Oak Creek Canyon; for ages 10 and older. On Thursday, observe wild burros on an easy hike for ages 15 and older. On Aug. 11, see beautiful plants and look for wildlife on a moderate, 2½-mile hike to the First Creek Grotto; for ages 12 and older.

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people 50 and older who are involved in hiking and related social activities plans several hikes each week of various difficulty levels, including an easy-to-moderate social hike on Saturdays. OTHER PROGRAMS

Red Rock Canyon: On Tuesday, attend a lecture on bats, then head to Red Springs to observe some of them in the wild. On Wednesday, take a guided tour of the visitor center and the Discovery Plaza. Also on Wednesday, create your own beaded necklace, bracelet or earrings in a jewelry-making workshop for ages 12 and older. On Saturday, Red Rock will host Astronomy in the Park, with a multimedia presentation followed by a viewing of the night sky with several types of scopes.
