HIKES
Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, join a geologist to discuss the rock formations, plants and animals encountered on a moderate, 3-mile evening hike in Oak Creek Canyon; for ages 10 and older. On Wednesday, learn about the wildflowers, geology and history of the area during a half-mile walk on the Red Spring boardwalk, then get an introduction to painting a desert landscape; for ages 10 and older. On Thursday, join a naturalist on an easy hike to observe wild burros. On July 28, see wildlife on a moderate, 2½-mile hike at Pine Creek; for ages 12 and older.

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people 50 and older who are involved in hiking and related social activities plans several hikes each week of various difficulty levels, including an easy-to-moderate social hike on Saturdays. OTHER PROGRAMS
Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, a tabletop presentation will provide an up-close look at some of the birds that visitors may spot at Red Rock. On Tuesday, create a masterpiece in an art class for ages 15 and older. Also on Tuesday, view some of the arachnids, reptiles, birds and mammals found in the area. Also on Tuesday, attend a discussion on bats, then observe some of them at Red Spring. On Wednesday, children ages 6 to 8 can learn about lizards and make a lizard craft.
Archaeo-Nevada Society, along with the Bureau of Land Management, seeks volunteers to help with Red Rock Canyon conservation projects. Visit www.archaeonevada.org.
