SEPT. 24 AND 25

Special upland game season scheduled for junior hunters

The Nevada Department of Wildlife has scheduled a special upland game season for youth hunters. This statewide season is Sept. 24 and 25 and is open only to hunters 15 or younger. Participants may hunt chukar and Hungarian partridge, California, Gambel's and Scaled quail and rabbits.

Hunters ages 12 to 15 must have a junior hunting license with an upland game bird stamp or may hunt under the authority of an apprentice license. In either case, youth hunters must be accompanied by a person who is at least 18. For the apprentice license to be valid, the adult mentor must hold a valid Nevada hunting license.

State law requires anyone born after Jan. 1, 1960, to complete a hunter education course before purchasing a hunting license. Classes are available prior to the youth hunt.
