Christ Church Episcopal, 2000 S. Maryland Parkway, recently welcomed its new rector, the Rev. J. Barry Vaughn. Vaughn comes from St. Alban’s Parish in Birmingham, Ala. A native of Alabama, Vaughn was confirmed after graduating from Harvard University. He received a Master of Divinity from Yale and a doctorate from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. An accomplished pianist, Vaughn has performed as a soloist and accompanist, and recently completed his first book, “Bishops, Bourbons, and Big Mules: A History of the Episcopal Church in Alabama,” to be published in October. He began his ministry at Christ Church Episcopal on March 1.

Nevada Desert Experience will have its annual Sacred Peace Walk from March 23 to 29. The 65-mile pilgrimage to the Nevada National Security Site will begin with an orientation at 2 p.m. March 23 at 1420 W. Bartlett Ave. The walk will begin March 24 and end March 29.
