TV station giving away tickets to ‘Oprah’

It's double diva time -- or, more precisely, triple diva time -- when "The Oprah Winfrey Show" makes a pilgrimage to Caesars Palace's Colosseum Saturday for a special audience with new headliner Cher (who opens May 6) and rock queen Tina Turner.

The made-in-Vegas hour, which wil air May 8, features interviews and performances with the dynamic Cher 'n' Tina duo; it's the first time Winfrey has brought her syndicated talkfest to Las Vegas since Celine Dion opened the Colosseum in 2003.

KLAS-TV, Channel 8, "Oprah's" morning TV home in Las Vegas, will give away 50 pairs of tickets during its morning newscast Monday through Wednesday; click on www.lasvegasnow.com for details. Select tickets also are available at Oprah.com; click on "Be on the Show."

"Green" scene -- Production continues close to home for "Green: From the Ground Up," produced by Las Vegas' PBS affiliate, KLVX-TV, Channel 10.

That's because this week's locations include Vegas PBS' under-construction Educational Technology Campus and Cashman Equipment's new world headquarters, reports producer-director Heather Caputo.

Turnabout time: Plenty of set-in-Vegas projects shoot elsewhere. (Exhibit A: CBS' "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.")

This week, however, Las Vegas turns the tables, providing the backdrop for a public-service announcement promoting New York City's Children's Aid Society.

Las Vegas-based Spectra Video will shoot footage at Desert Breeze Park Monday and Tuesday, according to Spectra owner John Mastrogiacomo. Some 10 to 12 local kids will appear in the ad, four in speaking roles.

As for why Las Vegas is standing in for New York, the Children's Aid Society (a Spectra client) decided "it was cheaper to send one person here" to oversee the spot, he explains.

Rolling B-roll: In filmmaking jargon, "B-roll" describes background footage that can be plugged into various projects.

This week, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority will update its B-roll footage, currently on film, to digital video form, explains location coordinator Vikki Henry.

Caesars Palace, the Las Vegas Hilton and Planet Hollywood provide interior backdrops; aerial and drive-by shots from the Strip to Glitter Gulch round out the schedule.

Quick hits: A national Palazzo TV commercial spotlights the new Strip resort; Baskow & Associates cast the extras. Ben Kalb Productions wraps an infomercial touting booty-shaping jeans at DK Productions and a Summerlin residence. And 2012, a Las Vegas-based alternative band, is scheduled to shoot a music video, destined for MTV, featuring the five-member band's song "American Revolution."
