Volunteers hit the streets for homeless count in Las Vegas — PHOTOS

Volunteers were out in force from late Tuesday until early Wednesday conducting the 2016 Southern Nevada Homeless Census.

This year's census was the ninth person-by-person count of the homeless in Clark County, according to a county news release. The 2015 homeless census found 7,509 homeless people staying in shelters or on the streets, and estimated that more than 34,000 people experience homelessness in Southern Nevada throughout the year.

The homeless census was a qualifying requirement for grants that provided more than $12 million last year to local programs that help the homeless, the news release said.
