VALLEY AUTOMALL SEEKS STUDENTS FOR ANNUAL TREE-DECORATING CONTEST

The Valley Automall is accepting entries on a first-come, first-served basis for its 15th annual tree-decorating contest, scheduled for Nov. 30.

The contest is open to student groups from all Clark County high schools. Students will decorate 20 dealer showrooms to compete for cash prizes of $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000. Teams will be provided a small budget to decorate a 10-foot-tall tree. Only one team per school will be accepted.

FAITH LUTHERAN FUNDRAISER SCHEDULED

Faith Lutheran Jr/Sr High School plans to host Crusader Knight, a gala fundraiser, at 6 p.m. Saturday at Red Rock Resort, 11011 W. Charleston Blvd. The event will feature a silent auction, dinner and student entertainment.

Tickets are $250 per person. A $500 donation will sponsor a teacher and a guest. Sponsorship packages range from $2,500 to $25,000 for a table of 10. For more information, call 702-804-4473.

PAINTED DESERT GOLF CLUB TO HOST GOLF TOURNAMENT FOR CHEFS FOR KIDS

The second annual Chefs for Kids charity golf tournament is scheduled for a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Sunday at Painted Desert Golf Club, 5555 Painted Mirage Road. Chefs for Kids is a program of the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and the American Culinary Federation Chefs of Las Vegas. The program aims to eliminate malnutrition and hunger in schoolchildren through education and awareness.

Registration is $120 per player and includes greens fee, a cart, range balls, snacks, a team photo and an awards luncheon.

The format of the tournament is a four-person scramble. The deadline to register is Wednesday.

BRACKEN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS LEARN FROM PIGGY BANK

Bracken Elementary School, 1200 N. 27th St., launched a financial literacy program, The Piggy Bank, to teach students how to save money by simulating a traditional bank inside an empty classroom. The kid-friendly school bank includes a teller counter, a TV to display each classroom's savings and money-saving tips on its walls.

The bank is a collaboration among United Way's Young Philanthropists Society, Junior Achievement, Silver State Schools Credit Union, the Andson Foundation and the school. Students will learn about money management and access the bank, which will be run by Young Philanthropists Society volunteers, every Friday. The volunteers will work with SSSCU to deposit students' money in a bank account set up on behalf of Bracken.

Last school year, more than 11,500 elementary schoolchildren participated in financial literacy education supported by the United Way.

COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS OF NEVADA TO HOST FUNDRAISER DOWNTOWN

Communities in Schools of Nevada is scheduled to host its second annual Harvest for Hope fundraiser from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the World Market Center, 495 S. Grand Central Parkway, Pavilion 3. It is set to feature dinner and an auction to help support more than 40 low-income schools in Nevada.

PASEO VERDE LIBRARY OFFERS HOMEWORK HELP AFTER SCHOOL

The Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway, offers free homework help for elementary school students from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays. No registration is necessary.

ARBOR VIEW HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL TEAM HOSTING FUNDRAISERS

Arbor View High School, 7500 Whispering Sands Drive, has three fundraisers scheduled in November and December to help support its 2013 baseball program.

At 7 a.m. Nov. 3, a community rummage sale is scheduled in the school parking lot. Parking spaces will be available to rent to display and sell items, with renters keeping all proceeds. Two parking spaces are $25. To reserve a spot, call 702-809-6489.

At 6 p.m. Nov. 16, a spaghetti dinner is scheduled in the school's cafeteria. Tickets are $10 per person, and kids 3 or younger eat free. Dinner includes a spaghetti entree, salad, bread and a drink. Various desserts will be sold for 50 cents.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 1, the school will host its fourth annual holiday baseball camp on the baseball field. Registration begins at 8 a.m. The camp is open to kids 8 to 14 and is $50 per player. Players are asked to bring water and lunch. High school coaches and players will teach the camp.

SMITH MIDDLE SCHOOL TO HOST MUSIC IN THE PARK

Smith Middle School, 1301 E. Tonopah Ave., plans to host its second annual Music in the Park event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 3.

The event is set to feature food, family activities and music from local artists and high school groups.

DEARING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL RECEIVES DONATION FROM BOULDER STATION

Boulder Station, 4111 Boulder Highway, donated 75 backpacks full of supplies and a check for $3,000 to Dearing Elementary School, 3046 Ferndale St. The donation was made Oct. 5 at an event at the school with members of Boulder Station's executive team.

Dearing is Boulder Station's Smart Start partner school. The Smart Start program matches Station Casinos properties with 11 at-risk elementary schools, providing them with supplies and financial support throughout the school year.

SCHOOL BOARD TRUSTEE TO HOST MEET-AND-GREET WITH PARENTS

District D School Board Trustee Lorraine Alderman's next Making Connections event is scheduled for 9:30 to 11 a.m. Oct. 25 at La Bonita Supermarkets, 2500 E. Desert Inn Road.

The event will allow parents to meet with Alderman without an appointment to share comments, suggestions and concerns. Spanish translation will be available.

LAS VEGAS ACADEMY SCHEDULES PERFORMING ARTS COLLEGE FAIR

Las Vegas Academy, 315 S. Seventh St., is scheduled to host the Las Vegas Performing and Visual Arts College Fair from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 24. The event is free and open to the public.

The National Association for College Admission Counseling is sponsoring the event to allow college-bound students to meet with admission representatives from colleges, universities, studios, festivals and other educational institutions with visual and performing arts programs. Students will learn about admission and financial aid, portfolio days, auditions, student life and more.
