Students at Pat A. Diskin Elementary School demonstrated their use of investigative science skills Thursday morning, conducting experiments that captured the imagination using new curriculum, Full Option Science System .
The kits used in Clark County School District include a teacher’s resource guide, readers for students and all materials needed to complete science investigation and experimentation throughout 10 to 12 weeks of science instruction.
“The FOSS kits engage students in rigorous, hands-on investigations,” said Sheryl Colgan, the school district’s director of science in its Curriculum and Professional Development Division. “These investigations are aligned to the Nevada Academic Content Standards for Science, based on the Next Generation Science Standards that were adopted by the state in 2014 which prepare students for futures in STEM fields of study.”
Clark County Department of Air Quality partnered with CCSD providing the $992,825 to fund the kits from collected from penalties issued over the past year for air quality violations. Air Quality hopes to continue to invest in the next generation of innovators in Clark County.
