12-year-old in critical condition after being hit by truck

A 12-year-old girl suffered life-threatening injuries after she was hit by a vehicle in the east valley Sunday afternoon, Las Vegas police said.

The girl ran in front of a medium-size pickup truck that was traveling west in the 4900 block of Owens Avenue near the Nellis Boulevard intersection about 4:30 p.m., Metro Lt. Bruce Miyama said.

The girl, who suffered a head and leg injury, was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition, Miyama said.

Westbound Owens was still blocked off about 6 p.m. west of Nellis for about 400 yards, Miyama said.
