2 men shot to death in east valley, police say
Two men were found shot dead in an east Las Vegas apartment complex just before sunrise Tuesday, according to police.
Officers responded to the Hamptons Apartment Complex, 3070 S. Nellis Blvd., near Vegas Valley Drive, at 5:07 a.m. after receiving several calls from people who heard about a dozen gunshots coming from the back parking lot of the complex, Metro homicide Lt. Dan McGrath said.
When they arrived, officers found two Hispanic men on the ground. One man was lying next to a late 1990s model Honda with both doors wide open, McGrath said. The other was several yards away from the car and appeared to have been shot while running away. Both men were unarmed when they were shot.
Witness are limited because of the early morning time frame and secluded crime scene, McGrath said.
"We have more questions than answers at this point," he said.
Police aren't sure what to make of the shooting victims, either.
The license plate on the car where the bodies were found does not match the one registered to the vehicle, McGrath said, and a small bag of narcotics was found near one of the bodies.
As for the shooters, there's even less to go on.
McGrath said that while several people heard the shooting, no one saw it. One person reported seeing a dark-colored sedan speeding north away from the complex right after the shots were fired.
Police do not believe the shooting was gang-related, but they haven't ruled out the possibility of a drug deal gone bad or a robbery, McGrath said.
What police do know is that more than 10 shots were fired from two different guns, so they suspect two shooters were involved.
The shooting was the final straw for Lori McGloflin, who has lived at the complex for about four months.
McGloflin said she moved in to the complex in April but is planning on moving out immediately, even if she has to break her lease.
In the short time she has lived there, McGloflin said, there has been a stabbing, a shooting and several robberies. Tuesday's homicides were the last straw for her, though.
"This is the worst place to live in Las Vegas," she said.
The two deaths were among four homicides reported in Las Vegas in a 24-hour period.
