2 pedestrians killed in Friday night hit-and-run

Two pedestrians died Friday night in a hit-and-run crash near the Strip.

Two pedestrians were crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk by the Rio, on South Valley View Boulevard north of West Flamingo Road, when they were struck by a vehicle just after 10 p.m., according to Las Vegas police supervisor Lt. Roger Price.

Witness statements and evidence at the scene indicate that a dark-colored Nissan sedan was traveling south on Valley View when it struck the pedestrians, who were crossing Valley View from east to west.

The driver of the sedan fled west on Flamingo without stopping, police said in a release early Saturday morning.

The two pedestrians, a 74-year-old woman and a 71-year-old man of Kennesaw, Ga., were pronounced dead at the scene.

These were the 48th and 49th traffic-related fatalities in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.

The Clark County coroner’s office will release the identities of the two pedestrians after their families have been notified.

Police are investigating the accident. Anyone with information should call Metro’s accident investigation section at 702-828-3128.
