3 injured in Metro involved vehicle collision

Three were injured Friday night when a Metropolitan Police Department patrol car crashed into a car on Interstate 15 at Flamingo Road, Las Vegas police said.

It is believed that the officer was responding to an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Sahara Avenue near Industrial Road, said Nevada Highway Patrol that assisted in road closures during the incident.

Police were responding to a “felony call in progress” just after 9 p.m., when they said the officer, who was traveling northbound on I-15 with overhead lights and sirens on, lost control when a “black” car re-entered his lane after initially yielding.

The officer lost control, crashing into the left side of a 2014 Ford Fiesta, injuring the 55-year old driver and his 59-year old passenger, according to police.

The occupants of the Fiesta were taken to University Medical Center with “moderate” injuries. The officer was treated and released with minor injuries.
