84-year-old Nevada inmate serving murder sentence dies

An 84-year-old inmate serving time for murder died at the Regional Medical Facility at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City on Wednesday, according to the Department of Corrections.

Lester Herman had been incarcerated since June 28, 2000. He was committed from Washoe County to serve consecutive sentences of 10 to 25 years for murder and 10 to 25 years for use of deadly weapon enhancement, the department said.

The department gave no information about the circumstances of Herman’s death, saying only that the coroner from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
