Accident in downtown Las Vegas leaves one dead

A Las Vegas man died after a bizarre two-vehicle accident occurred while both drivers were stopped at a downtown traffic light at 11:37 p.m. Thursday.

The death may have been related to a preceding medical event, Las Vegas police said.

The unidentified 49-year-old man from Las Vegas had been stopped at a red light southbound on Main Street near Bonneville Avenue when he ran his 1995 Honda Accord into the rear of a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Andrew Allen, 39, of Walnut Creek, Calif., according to evidence at the scene and witness statements.

Once the car made contact with the pickup, the man kept his foot on the accelerator, and the tires were spinning. Police said the Honda separated from the truck and crashed into a concrete wall .

He was pronounced dead at University Medical Center and will be identified after the family is notified. Allen was uninjured.
