Cement truck driver killed in wreck identified

The 44-year-old man who died Wednesday when the cement truck he was driving collided with a truck carrying police officers and fell down a 20-foot embankment has been identified by the Clark County coroner's office as Richard Wood.

According to Nevada Highway Patrol, Wood's cement truck veered into the eastbound lanes on the Summerlin Parkway near Rampart from the westbound lanes and struck an unmarked Dodge pickup carrying two on-duty officers.

Las Vegas police officer Jose Hernandez said Wood's cement truck then fell off the 20-foot embankment and caught fire.

A person with a fire extinguisher managed to put out the fire.

The investigation is still ongoing by the highway patrol.
