Clark County Fire Department veteran becomes chief

It’s official: Gregory D. Cassell is now chief of the Clark County Fire Department.

County commissioners unanimously ratified the selection of Cassell on Tuesday.

Cassell, a Fire Department veteran, started there in 1989, working his way up to battalion chief by 2006 and most recently overseeing the department’s training division.

Cassell replaces Bertral Washington, who left the county to head up the Pasadena Fire Department in California.

Cassell’s annual salary will be $147,000, plus benefits.

The county Fire Department has more than 900 staff and volunteer personnel, and covers unincorporated areas, which include the Strip.
