Climber hurts ankle, rescued at Red Rock Canyon

Las Vegas police rescued a climber Thursday morning who injured his ankle in the Red Rock Canyon National Conversation Area.

Metro said their Search and Rescue unit was notified at 11:37 a.m., but did not say where in the conservation area the injured climber was located. By about 1:20 p.m., the rescue was over.

The man was injured after a fall, police spokesman Jesse Roybal said. Whether it was a short fall while climbing or a free fall wasn't clear.

Roybal mentioned the weather is nice this time of year, so more hikers are trekking to Red Rock.

"Anytime you participate in any of these activities, there is an inherent risk of danger," Roybal said. "Make sure you're with somebody, you're not climbing outside of your capabilities and people know where you're at."
