Cooler temperatures expected for valley, unpredictable winds for mountain
Temperatures are expected to drop significantly Thursday as a storm system rolls over the Las Vegas valley and Spring Mountains.
The forecast calls for a high of 96 degrees in Las Vegas on Thursday, breaking a chain of 15 days of temperatures exceeding 105 degrees, the National Weather Service said. There is a 30 percent chance of rain in the valley Thursday.
A flash flood watch will be in effect for the Spring Mountains from 8 a.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday.
The NWS said the burn scars prevent the soil from absorbing the rain, which increases the chance of flooding and debris flow.
Southern winds of 10 to 15 mph are expected Thursday outside of the thunderstorms. Inside the storms, though, winds will be erratic and unpredictable, the weather service said.
Temperatures are expected to stay below 100 degrees through the weekend, with the chances of precipitation decreasing on Friday.
