Cruz to stump in Southern Nevada next week

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz plans to visit Southern Nevada on Aug. 14 for campaign events in Henderson and Las Vegas.

The U.S. senator from Texas will speak at a luncheon in Henderson hosted by the Republican Club of Sun City Anthem. The doors open at 11 a.m., and Cruz will arrive about an hour later. The 200-seat venue is open to members of the club and to news media. For more information, visit http://thercsca.org/node/114.

Cruz will speak from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Las Vegas in a discussion hosted by the Nevada chapter of Americans for Prosperity, a national conservative organization that promotes free markets.

Cruz, 44, was an attorney and solicitor general in Texas before becoming a senator in 2012.

Cruz's father, Pastor Rafael Cruz, wrapped up a four-day stretch of campaign events in Las Vegas that ended Monday, the campaign said.

Cruz visited Las Vegas for the Republican Jewish Coalition in April, and also spoke at a pastors conference earlier this year in Las Vegas.

He also has a campaign event in Reno on Aug. 15 and will attend the Basque Fry in Gardnerville, an event for GOP presidential candidates hosted by state Attorney General Adam Laxalt.
