Cuban national indicted for murder in 2009 Las Vegas Valley case
A grand jury indicted a 29-year-old Cuban national for the May 2009 fatal shooting of a man found on Blue Diamond Road outside Las Vegas, Clark County prosecutors said.
Leanrdo Lopez-Turatiz faces one county of first-degree murder with use of a deadly weapon for the death of his roommate, Francisco Lamber-Cordero.
Prosecutors said he fled the U.S. following the shooting but was caught. Lopez-Turatiz was extradited from Canada last month.
Prosecutor Michelle Fleck said investigators found Lopez-Turatiz’s bloody palm print in their apartment. The blood matched Lamber-Cordero’s, she said.
Police also discovered Lopez-Turatiz and Lamber-Cordero had marijuana growing in the home as they investigated Lamber-Cordero’s death.
District Judge Linda Bell ordered Lopez-Turatiz to be held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center.
An arraignment hearing was set for March 31.
