Delivery driver killed in head-on crash identified

A man killed Sunday morning after a head-on crash was identified on Tuesday.

Ricardo Martinez, 43, of North Las Vegas, died after his delivery truck was struck head-on by a 2009 GMC Yukon Denali at the intersection of Flamingo Road and Koval Lane.

Las Vegas police said Martinez was stopped at a light when the Denali collided with his truck about 3:30 a.m. He died from head and chest trauma, according to the Clark County coroner's office.

The driver of the Denali, 20-year-old Hasim Sharif Rahman, and three passengers were hospitalized with minor to serious injuries.

Rahman is the son of boxer Hasim Sharif Rahman, a former heavyweight champion, a Las Vegas police spokeswoman confirmed Tuesday.

Police said that alcohol was not a factor in the crash as initially suspected. The younger Rahman could still face charges, but the case was still being investigated, police said.

Rahman's father was known as the heavy underdog boxer who knocked out Lennox Lewis with one punch in 2001 in their championship match in South Africa.
