Northbound Decatur Boulevard is set to be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily through Thursday between the on- and off-ramps at U.S. Highway 95 and Bonanza Road, according to the city of Las Vegas.

The closure is due to the installation of a pedestrian bridge across Decatur Boulevard near U.S. 95.

Bridge decking will be fabricated and installed and concrete will be poured, weather permitting. Painting, fencing and lighting work will continue through July but should require only lane restrictions, the city said.

Construction of the pedestrian bridge is part of the $4.9 million Bonanza Trail Phase II improvement project that began Nov. 1, 2010, and is expected to continue through July.

The improvement project completes the overall trail connection from Durango Drive to downtown and includes the construction of a shared-use path, a pedestrian undercrossing at Rainbow Boulevard, a new bus turnout at the northwest corner of Westcliff Drive at Rainbow Boulevard and new signage and roadway striping for bicycle lanes. The project includes more than 4.5 miles of improvements to the city's trail system.

Funding for the project is provided by the Bureau of Land Management through the sale of public lands as authorized by the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act.

Wells Cargo is the project contractor. CH2M HILL and the city of Las Vegas Department of Public Works are managing the construction. Kimley-Horn is the design consultant for the city of Las Vegas Department of Public Works. The city of Las Vegas Department of Planning developed the trail concept and secured funds for the construction.

Sewer project causes lane restrictions
on Eastern Avenue at Tropicana Avenue

Drivers should expect lane restrictions through at least June 30 due to a sewer rehabilitation project on Eastern Avenue that began May 2, according to the Clark County Water Reclamation District.

Northbound Eastern Avenue traffic is being reduced to two travel lanes from north of Reno Avenue through the intersection at Tropicana Avenue.

Eastbound Tropicana Avenue traffic is being reduced to two travel lanes from west of Burnham Avenue to Topaz Street.

One left-turn lane from westbound Tropicana Avenue to southbound Eastern Avenue will be restricted, and access to driveways will be maintained.

Work on Eastern Avenue and Tropicana Avenue is set to be conducted from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. Lane restrictions may be in place 24 hours a day, due to pumping operations.

While work is taking place, drivers should take precautions, use alternate routes and allow extra time when traveling through the impacted area, officials said.

Memorial service pays tribute
to Southern Nevada's fallen officers

A memorial service was held May 19 at Police Memorial Park, 3250 Metro Academy Way, to honor all Southern Nevada law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

The service included a march of honor by the Southern Nevada Multi-Agency Honor Guard. Family members and other representatives of the fallen officers accompanied the honor guard during the march.

A keynote address was delivered by Sheriff Doug Gillespie, with remarks also offered by Assistant Sheriff Raymond Flynn and Las Vegas City Councilman Stavros Anthony.

Annual firefighter bachelor auction
Saturday to benefit burn foundation

Residents will be able to bid on 18 of Southern Nevada's most eligible firefighters during the 12th annual Fire and Rain Firefighter Bachelor Auction, hosted by the Firefighters of Southern Nevada Burn Foundation.

The event is set for 6-10 p.m. Saturday at Rain nightclub inside the Palms, 4321 W. Flamingo Road. Proceeds will benefit the Firefighters of Southern Nevada Burn Foundation's programs and services and the UMC Lions Burn Center.

Auction packages will include show tickets, jewelry gift certificates, hotel and spa packages, restaurant gift certificates and more. Admission is $40 for women or $35 if purchased online and $80 for men or $75 if purchased online. Tickets are on sale at theburnfoundation.org.

VIP access wristbands are available while supplies last and start at $50 for women and $90 for men. They include admission into the auction and after-parties at Palms nightclubs, including Rain, Ghostbar, Moon and the Playboy Club.

The Firefighters of Southern Nevada Burn Foundation is a nonprofit organization guided by valley firefighters from Las Vegas Fire & Rescue and the Clark County, North Las Vegas, Nellis and Henderson fire departments. The organization reaches out to the Southern Nevada community and the local American Red Cross chapter during catastrophes, offering assistance in areas where other organizations are unable to help.

The organization provides assistance for sick or injured children through financial aid, clothing and furniture donations. More than 40,000 valley residents have benefited from the foundation in the past two years, and the organization has raised more than $1,150,000 for the Southern Nevada community since 2003.
