HIGH TEA TO RAISE FUNDS FOR SAFE NEST
A Spring High Tea is planned from 1 to 4 p.m. May 9 at Mandarin Oriental, 3752 Las Vegas Blvd. South, to raise funds for Safe Nest.
The event is set to include a silent auction, a champagne reception, makeup artists and entertainment.

FREE EVENT TO TEACH KIDS ABOUT BICYCLE SAFETY ON THE ROAD
Pedal Your Way to Safety is planned from 7:30-10:30 a.m. May 16 at the Centennial Hills Active Adult Center, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive, for attendees 12 or older.
The free event is being sponsored by Las Vegas City Councilman Steve Ross and the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada in honor of National Bike Month in May.
Participants can learn the basic principles of bicycling on the road through classroom discussion, parking lot activities and hands-on training.
Attendees must wear bicycle helmets, and registration is required.

METRO RECEIVES GRANT FOR PORTABLE BREATH TESTERS
The Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety has awarded a $4,997 federal grant to the Metropolitan Police Department to purchase 13 Lifeloc portable breath testers and related equipment.
Metro officers use the devices during investigations involving people suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol. The devices also are used at DUI checkpoints and as an education tool during community events.

A fundraiser for Metropolitan Police Department officer David Figueroa is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. May 3 at Windy City Beefs ‘N Pizza, 9711 S. Eastern Ave.

FLOAT LIKE A DUCK TO PROMOTE WATER SAFETY
Paragon Pools’ 12th annual Float Like A Duck event is slated from noon to 4 p.m. May 30 at the Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA pool, 4141 Meadows Lane.
The free water safety event is set to feature exhibits, hands-on activities, float classes and open swimming.
Attendees younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

NEW PHASE OF SEWER INSTALLATION TO START ON RAMPART BOULEVARD
Sewer line construction is continuing on schedule south on Rampart Boulevard toward the entrance of the Angel Park Golf Club, 100 S. Rampart Blvd., as part of Phase 4 of the city of Las Vegas’ Rampart Boulevard Sewer Installation Project.
Construction south of Canyon Run Drive is scheduled to switch to the west half of Rampart Boulevard during the last week of April, with all traffic diverted to the east half between Alta and Canyon Run drives. The switch will mark the start of Phase 5.

HENDERSON SEEKS TO HIRE POLICE AND CORRECTIONS OFFICERS
The Henderson Police Department is accepting applications through 5:30 p.m. July 10 for police and corrections officers.
Applicants must be age 21 and a U.S. citizen by the date of the written exam; have a high school diploma or equivalent; and have no felony or domestic violence convictions. Candidates do not have to be Henderson residents to apply.

FORUM ON ROBBERY PLANNED MAY 16
Free safety forums on various topics are planned monthly at the Mob Museum, 300 Stewart Ave., through a partnership with the Metropolitan Police Department.
Forums are slated from 1-2 p.m. May 16, robbery; June 20, traffic awareness; July 18, gang awareness; Aug. 15, district attorney court procedures; Sept. 19, K-9 operations; Oct. 17, missing persons; Nov. 21, Metro Volunteer Program; and Dec. 19, emergency preparedness.
The presentations are also scheduled to be live-streamed at themobmuseum.org.
