Kids cellphone safety: A free course on Kids Cell Phone Safety, sponsored by Thompson Taekwondo, 9030 W. Flamingo Road, is planned for Tuesdays and Saturdays in November. UNLV plans Take Back the Night March Oct. 8: The annual Take Back the Night March is planned from 5 to 6 p.m. Oct. 8 in the Student Union Courtyard at UNLV, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway. The event is for all to show support for a safe university and community. Visit tinyurl.com/p3g378b.

Breast Cancer Awareness shirts: Las Vegas Firefighters Local 1285 plans to sell shirts through October for $20 each at heroic.supply to benefit Susan G. Komen Southern Nevada. The effort raised $8,000 last year. Visit iafflocal1285.com or komensouthernnevada.org.

FEMA recognition: The city of Henderson was recently recognized by the Federal Emergency Management Agency for its efforts to prepare the community for emergencies. The city's office of emergency management won a 2015 FEMA Individual and Community Preparedness Award in the Action to Awareness category for its Get READY! Stay READY! campaign. The campaign was developed by the office of emergency management and launched last year, teaching residents about disaster preparedness. Visit cityofhenderson.com.

Fire Station 22 Open House: The Clark County Fire Department event is scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 10 at the station, 6745 W. Flamingo Road. The event coincides with Fire Prevention Week. Helping Kids of Las Vegas plans to offer free flu shots for children and adults while supplies last. Fire safety and injury prevention are set to be the themes at the event. The next open house is scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. Dec. 12 at Fire Station 23, 4250 E. Alexander Road, with holiday safety and emergency medical service as its theme. Visit clarkcountynv.gov.

Sun City Security Patrol open house: The Sun City Security Patrol plans to host a Picnic With the Patrol open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 10 in the Desert Vista Picnic Area behind the outdoor pool near the Security Patrol Office in Sun City Summerlin. Information about safety/security and volunteering will be available, and rides will be offered in Prius patrol cars.

Valleywide open house: Las Vegas Fire & Rescue plans the free event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 10 at stations around the valley. Visit lasvegasnevada.gov.

Workshops to help neighbors resolve disputes: Two free workshops offered by the city of Henderson are set to provide neighbors with tools to communicate peacefully and resolve disputes. The sessions are slated from 10 to 11 a.m. Oct. 17 at the Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road, and 6 to 7 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Henderson Multigenerational Center, 250 S. Green Valley Parkway. Participants can learn tips on how to approach a neighbor about an issue and resolve it without conflict. Information about the city's free mediation program will also be available to help resolve neighborhood disputes, such as those involving barking dogs, overhanging landscaping and noise concerns. Ward 2 Free Shredding Party: Residents can have their documents shredded free at the event, slated from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 10 in the Clarence A. Piggott Academy of International Studies parking lot, 9601 Red Hills Road. Call 702-229-6405.

Community expo: Health, wellness and public safety products and services are set to be showcased during the city of Henderson's Community Expo, planned from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Galleria at Sunset mall, 1300 W. A Night Out: The event benefiting the Rape Crisis Center is planned from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Lavo Restaurant Lounge at the Palazzo, 3325 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Free legal assistance and education clinics for seniors: Clinics for free legal assistance and free legal education are planned for seniors in the coming months. Legal assistance clinics at the Green Valley Library, 2797 N. Green Valley Parkway, are scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 21, focusing on identity theft; and Dec. 16, addressing estate planning basics. A legal education clinic at the West Charleston Library, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd., is slated from 5 to 6 p.m. Oct. 28, dealing with sealing criminal records. Free classes to address sealing criminal records: The Clark County Law Library and community partners plan to offer free classes Wednesdays through Nov. 4 on how to seal criminal records in Clark County and restore civil rights in Nevada. The classes are being offered by UNLV's William S. Boyd School of Law, the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, Nevada Legal Services and the American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada. Classes will be held at the Clark County Law Library, 309 S. Third St., Suite 400. Topics include requirements for sealing records and how to receive free help. Fostering Futures gala: Fostering Futures of Las Vegas, formerly Court Appointed Special Advocates, plans to honor volunteers who speak for children in foster care, as well as other valley child advocates, during a gala scheduled from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 10 inside the Titian and Veronese ballrooms at The Venetian, 3355 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Tickets are $200 per seat or $1,800 for a table of 10 at fosteringfutureslv.org. Proceeds will benefit Fostering Futures of Las Vegas. Fostering Futures of Las Vegas is a community-based program that recruits, trains and supports volunteers to advocate for the best interest of abused and neglected children in courtrooms and communities.
