Dining Pick of the Week: Stymies Pub

PICK OF THE WEEK:

STYMIES PUB

5995 E. Vegas Valley Drive, Royal Links Golf Club, 702-450-8123

It’s difficult to say no to breakfast or lunch served in a British pub with historic golf memorabilia and great panoramic views of a golf course. Stymies, inside the castle at Royal Links Golf Club, also has two flat-screen, 42-inch plasma televisions with Guinness and Newcastle on tap. Let’s eat first. Luncheon sandwiches include Classic Club (smoked turkey, applewood bacon), patty melt, turkey Reuben, fish and chips, 8-ounce New York strip steak on French baguette, tuna or chicken salad, Virginia cured ham with Swiss and cold smoked turkey with Swiss or cheddar. Sandwiches are served with homemade fries, potato salad or coleslaw. Two new additions to the menu from chef Robert Dominguez and Charles Bombard, the club’s general manager, are shepherd’s pie (meat pie with mashed potato crust) and corned beef melt. Both received high praise from two recent guests from Northern Scotland. If you plan a day of golf, Stymies can fix a box lunch featuring deli-style sandwiches, rosemary grilled chicken, grilled Angus beef burger with cheese, bacon and onions or roast beef sub. A Sunrise Box has an English muffin with eggs, cheese, bacon or sausage and banana bread. Sandwiches start at $9.95. Stymies Pub is open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. — Jack Bulavsky
