TEACHERS CAN GET FREE ADMISSION
AT NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC EXHIBIT

Teachers in Clark County will receive free admission to the “50 Greatest Photographs of National Geographic” exhibit at The Venetian, 3355 Las Vegas Blvd. South, through July. Teachers must show school identification at the Imagine Exhibitions Gallery box office. The exhibit is open from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the last ticket sold at 6 p.m. General admission is $16, and locals, military personnel and seniors are $13, not including taxes and fees.

SCHOOL DISTRICT TO PROVIDE
SUMMER LESSONS ONLINE

The Clark County School District is offering online learning activities and resources for parents and students to do over the summer. Families with students in 12th grade or younger can access grade-appropriate activities in math and reading at ccsd.net/district/summer-learning-guides.

The lessons are available in English or Spanish.

SHORT STORY CONTEST OPEN
TO YOUNG AUTHORS

Aspiring authors ages 14 to 22 can apply for a chance to have their work published as part of a compilation book to be sold on amazon.com.

Applications for the Gateway Arts Foundation’s Helen Hearne Literary Scholarship are being accepted through Aug. 1. Applicants can submit a short story in fiction or nonfiction of 14,000 to 21,000 words. The story must have a theme or central focus of Nevada or any town in Nevada throughout the story.

FOUNDATION SEEKS EXCHANGE STUDENT HOST FAMILIES

The Face the World Foundation is registering volunteer host families for the fall semester of high school. Host families provide a loving home, meals and a bed. The nonprofit foundation provides a community representative for the host family and the student during his time in the United States. For more information, call 760-247-5964.

FOOTHILL HIGH SCHOOL DONATES SHOES
TO CHILDREN

The boys physical education department at Foothill High School, 800 College Drive, collected more than 60 new pairs of shoes to donate to Two Toes, a nonprofit organization that helps impoverished youths in Central America. The shoes will be sent to children in Panama this summer.

GOLF TOURNAMENT RAISES FUNDS
FOR RANCHO FOOTBALL

The football program at Rancho High School, 1900 E. Searles Ave., received nearly $25,000 from the A Level Playing Field Foundation as part of the inaugural Rasing Awareness Golf Tournament at Palm Valley Golf Course, hosted by Golf Summerlin. The donation will help buy uniforms and equipment.

BRACKEN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS SAVE $18,000 IN PIGGY BANK

Students at Bracken Elementary School, 1200 N. 27th St., saved more than $18,000 during the 2012-13 school year as part of the Piggy Bank program, sponsored by the United Way of Southern Nevada. The UWSN’s Young Philanthropists Society launched the program at Bracken in October, introducing financial literacy curriculum encouraging students to save money and creating a kid-friendly bank within the school.
