The Hiroshi Allen Karate competition team attended the USA National Karate-do Federation Nationals and Team Trials July 12-15 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Johnny Crossman won a bronze medal in Intermediate 13-year-old nationals.
Kymberly Buset won a bronze medal in 60K Elite 18-20 year-old team trials.
Charlie Buset won gold medals in 52K elite 14-15 year-old team trials (junior national team) and 60K advanced 15-year-old nationals (national champion). He was the only representative from Nevada to qualify for the junior national team and plans to compete in Cancun, Mexico, Aug. 27 to Sept. 2.
Trinity Allen won a silver medal in advanced 11-year-old nationals.
Anthony Ngo won a gold medal in beginner 13-year-old nationals (national champion).
Tyler Baum graduated June 14 from Army basic combat training B Company, 1st Battalion, 46th Infantry Unit, at Fort Benning, Ga.
He was named Soldier of the Cycle and was given the Army Achievement Medal.
Baum is now attending Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gordon, Ga.
A 2009 graduate of Faith Lutheran Jr/Sr High School, he is the son of Ronald and Clarica Baum of Las Vegas.
Kaden Magdaluyo, 18, has achieved Eagle Scout status in the Boy Scouts of America.
A member of Troop 43, Magdaluyo constructed educational boards for Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary for his Eagle project.
A 2012 graduate of East Career & Technical Academy, he enjoys golf in his free time and hopes to become an investment banker.
Magdaluyo is the son of Kyle and Kathleen Magdaluyo of Las Vegas.
Thomas Burns, 20, graduated from U.S. Coast Guard Boot Camp at Cape May, N.J., on July 13.
He is stationed in St. Ignace, Mich., a small boat station, learning ice rescue.
Burns also is pursuing qualifications for the boat crew and hopes to go on to flight school and Aviation Survival Technician School to become a rescue swimmer.
Burns, a graduate of Foothill High School, is the son of Tommy and Terry Burns.
Robert Watkins, 18, has been awarded the GEM Academic Scholarship for Boise State University, where he plans to study criminal justice.
He has also been awarded the Nile Carson Memorial Scholarship by the Nevada chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates and the Raul Elizondo Memorial Scholarship by the North Las Vegas Police Officers Association.
A 2012 graduate of Calvary Chapel High School, Watkins is the son of Dave and Kathy Noahr of Henderson.
Humberto Salguero, 14, has been named master councilor of the Oasis chapter of DeMolay, an international organization that teaches leadership skills to males ages 12-21.
This is Humberto's second term holding the office.
A student at Rancho High School, he is the son of Lilia Dominguez of Las Vegas.
Jared Ornelas, 19, is a past master councilor of the Oasis chapter of DeMolay, an international organization that teaches leadership skills to males ages 12-21.
Ornelas, a student at the College of Southern Nevada, is the son of Susan Ornelas of Las Vegas.
Donald Agraan has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. A 2008 graduate of Rancho High School, Agraan is the son of Jean and Diosdado Agraan of Las Vegas.
Brian Ochsner of North Las Vegas and Alexander Carle, Ian Romeo, Branden Giannini and Kristen Forti, all of Henderson, have earned academic honors at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., for the spring 2012 semester.
Chloe Henderson, 14, of Las Vegas, was selected by the United States Tennis Association to attend the USTA/NJTL Tennis Leadership Camp in Minneapolis, July 16-20.
James McCune has graduated from Army basic infantry training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga. A 2009 graduate of Cheyenne High School, McCune is the son of David and Debbie McCune of North Las Vegas.
