Favorite Sons & Daughters June 18-24

Alyssa Everett, 20, has graduated from Army basic combat training and advanced initial training at Fort Jackson, S.C.

She is assigned to Bravo Company 63D Support Battalion in Las Vegas.

A 2011 graduate of Foothill High School, Everett is the daughter of Peter and Barbara Lockwood of Henderson.

Riley Tappan has graduated from Air Force basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

A 2012 graduate of Foothill High School, Tappan is the son of Traves and Tina Tappan of Henderson.

Miikeda Brackett has graduated from Air Force basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

Brackett, who earned distinction as an honor graduate, received a bachelor’s degree in 2010 from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

She is the daughter of Sharon Jackson of Las Vegas.

Cameron Kakol, 15, has achieved Eagle Scout status in the Boy Scouts of America.

A member of Troop 208, Kakol helped harvest and plant 600 willow tree cuttings along the Muddy River in Warm Springs Natural Area in Moapa for his Eagle project.

A freshman at Rancho High School, Kakol enjoys hiking, rock climbing, snowboarding and video games.

He hopes to make a career in aviation or computer design.

Kakol is the son of John and Anna Kakol of Las Vegas.

Edwin Menjivar, 18, has achieved Eagle Scout status in the Boy Scouts of America.

A member of Troop 700, Menjivar held a clothing drive and barbecue to provide donations to HELP of Southern Nevada’s Shannon West Homeless Youth Center for his Eagle project.

A senior at Sierra Vista High School, Menjivar is a member of the orchestra and track and field and cross country teams.

He received the Presidential Award, was named to the honor roll and the Who’s Who Registry of Academic Excellence. He enjoys hiking, camping and being with friends and family.

He plans to major in biology and become a veterinarian.

Menjivar is the son of Jaime and Patty Menjivar of Las Vegas.

Andrew Miller, 18, of Henderson, has achieved Eagle Scout status in the Boy Scouts of America.

A member of Troop 912, Miller helped organize a toy drive to benefit the Ronald McDonald House and Sunrise Hospital’s pediatric unit for his Eagle project.

A senior at College of Southern Nevada High School, he is a member of the National Honor Society and the Key Club.

He enjoys camping, hiking, canoeing and playing guitar.

He plans a career in biology.

Miller is the son of Donald Miller and Terry Miller-Newcomb and stepson of Patrick Newcomb.
