Award recipient: Las Vegas native Lisa Chong was honored with the Distinguished President Award and was a recipient of the Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation Scholarship at the California-Nevada-Hawaii Circle K International District Convention March 19 in Los Angeles. Chong was the 2015-16 President of the CKI chapter at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she is studying to obtain a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and hopes to pursue a career in pharmacy. She is a 2013 graduate of Clark High School. This is her second time to be recognized with a California-Nevada-Hawaii CKI district award.
Eagle recognitions:
— Chowdhury Muhtasim Ahsan of Summerlin and Troop 700 received his Eagle badge for his project involving creating awareness for detached fishing line and hooks in Lake Mead and the dangers of them by creating and installing fishing line recycling boxes in the Lake Mead harbor. He is the son of Dr. Chowdhury H. Ahsan and Dr. Selina Parveen.
— George Ian Ogilvie of Summerlin and Troop 700 received his badge for refurbishing the main pasture fence at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park. He is the son of Michelle and George Ogilvie.
— Sahil J. Patel of Summerlin and Troop 700 received his badge for renovation of the trail leading to the lost city of St. Thomas at Lake Mead National Recreation Area. He is the son of Janmejay and Bina Patel.
— Kevin Matthew Tyler of Las Vegas and Troop 460 received his badge for raising funds through donations and organizing an e-gaming tournament where the entrance fees were used as donations. These funds were used to purchase toys for the Nathan Adelson Hospice in conjunction with the Bruce Wayne Campaign to provide toys for terminal children and their siblings. Over $600 was raised for this cause. He is the son of Sean and Jenny Tyler.
Honor rolls:
— Students at Oklahoma City University who made the fall 2015 dean’s honor roll include Dominique Kopecky, Syrina Lopez, Harrison Langford, Casey Andrews and Yifan Wang, all of Las Vegas.
— Fernando Rocha of Las Vegas achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA during the fall 2015 semester, earning a spot on the Provost’s List at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.
— Kiley Harrison of Las Vegas made the fall 2015 president’s list at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio.
— Alexandra Arguello, Hannah Cava and Sierra Selene Pagan, all of Las Vegas, made the fall 2015 dean’s list at University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana.
— Nickolas Maddalena of Las Vegas was awarded Gold Stars by The Citadel for earning a grade point ratio of 3.7 or higher during the 2015 fall semester. Students that achieve Gold Star recognition are also placed on The Citadel’s Dean’s List.
— Kristen Given of Las Vegas made the fall 2015 dean’s list at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio.
Graduations:
— U.S. Air Force Airman Kimberly D. Mott graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Mott is the daughter of D’on Thomspon of Heriman, Utah, and Craig Mott of Las Vegas.
— Shreyyas Vanarase of Las Vegas graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.
— Tatiana Pagan of Las Vegas graduated in December from the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana.
