READER EXPRESSES APPRECIATION FOR LIBRARIES

Congratulations to our Spring Valley and Clark County libraries and their executive director, Jeanne Goodrich. Despite a cut in revenue, our libraries did us proud:

n They received Institute of Museum and Library Services and John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation grants.

n They implemented a program of more equitable availability of library computers in the young people’s library.

n They adopted a new mission statement of priorities in the Read Learn Achieve program.

n From July 1, 2012, to June 30, 2013, there were more than 14 million checkouts of books and materials; 150 community partnerships; more than 570,000 children and adults attended programs; 1.5 million computer sessions; and more than 15,000 library-sponsored events and community programs.

n They expanded and remodeled the Mesquite Library.

Our libraries continue their excellent stewardship of community needs. They focus on providing materials and services for children, teens and families, support adult and family literacy and offer classes for senior citizens (such as myself). Our dedicated library staffers provide enjoyment and personal enrichment to our community.

In particular, I praise the Spring Valley Library. Branch manager Nikki Winslow and computer room staffers do an excellent job.
