Letters to the editor

Thank you for the articles you wrote about our Fear No Bully and Parkour programs in View ("Kids taught to stave off bullying," April 19 View) ("Parkour leaps from obscurity around valley," April 26 View). They have generated quite an interest in our school and have brought about some great connections.

We are now partnering with Nevada PEP, a nonprofit organization that represents families of children with disabilities. Because children with disabilities are most often the ones bullied, it was easy for us to combine our efforts and join in each other's causes. In addition, our Fear No Bully program is now a one-hour radio show on KLAV 1230 AM and streaming live on the web at 2 p.m. on Saturdays. We are in the process of creating a nonprofit arm for the Fear No Bully program because we've decided to no longer offer classes for money but simply give advice on the air. Unfortunately, the production costs aren't being completely covered by our advertisers, so we're hoping to find a few more sponsors to keep the program going.

We have also started a stage play called "Pirates of Possibility" that will be going to elementary and middle schools to spread the anti-bullying message. Clark County School District's Community Outreach program has been very helpful in assisting us develop this story so that it will meet the Nevada State standards for education.

It has been a very exciting few weeks, and it's all because of your great articles.

Thank you again for your coverage of our programs. I am sure that many children will benefit from our positive messages and informative classes, and it's all because you cared enough to let them know we exist.

Dinosaurs & Roses story appreciated

I just want to thank View for highlighting the best thrift shop I've ever been in ("Thrift store and gallery donates to local charities," May 3 Spring Valley View).

Where do you walk into a thrift shop and have a circular staircase to the second floor where there are rooms where artists show off their crafts? Where can you spend a small amount of money and purchase one's treasures and help out your neighbors at the same time?

My last visit to Dinosaurs & Roses netted me a brand new leather purse ($10), a pair of club-shiny pants from Chico's ($5) and new designer jeans with the rips in the front ($7). I can't think of a more win-win place to obtain used goods, and what an asset they are to Las Vegas -- not to mention the friendly people that work there.

HOA residents agree to accept group concept, not to diminish standards

While Penny Vescio wants to protect her pets, there are six to eight neighbors who don't want a "jail yard" view ("HOAs: Good or bad?" April 26 Henderson View.) Who should have the right of visual control?

HOA CC&Rs are extensive and detailed. When you purchase property with a HOA, you agree to comply with the group concept, not to crusade to diminish the standards.

I have lost pets to coyotes; others have lost them to airborne predators. It's the price of living at the edge of the wild.
