Literary Las Vegas: Linda P. Young

Anna and Andy, the hummingbirds that inspired Linda P. Young's "The Adventures of Anna and Andy Hummingbird," grew up amid the mulberry trees in the author's Centennial Hills-area backyard. While some of the feathered adventures in the book are based on true events, others were hatched from Young's imagination. She said her book, written to amuse her grandchildren, is "about the fun hummingbirds seem to have." Born in Iowa City, the author moved to Las Vegas 20 years ago. Excerpt from The Adventures of Anna and Andy Hummingbird:

Anna's little claws saved her from falling to the ground, but she was caught hanging upside down on the nest and she was very scared! Andy panicked and started calling for Momma. She was not too far away and heard his cries for help. Momma was back to the nest in a flash! She tried desperately to help Anna scoot back into the nest but she was having trouble. The nice lady happened to be outside and she saw Momma struggling to help Anna.
