FREE TAX ASSISTANCE TO BE OFFERED
Volunteers from the AARP and IRS are set to offer residents free assistance with personal income tax form preparation and electronic filing at city of Las Vegas community and senior centers through April.
Income restrictions apply to qualify for assistance. Advance appointments are required at all locations. The sites are:
n The Las Vegas Senior Center, 451 E. Bonanza Road, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays through April 12. For an appointment, call 702-229-6454.
n The Centennial Hills Active Adult Center, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive, Mondays and Thursdays through April 11. For an appointment, call 702-229-1702.
n The Lieburn Senior Center, 6230 Garwood Ave., Tuesdays through April 9. For an appointment, call 702-229-1600.
n The East Las Vegas Community Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave., Tuesdays through April 9. For an appointment, call 702-229-1515.
Participants are required to bring a copy of their income tax return, Social Security card and all applicable 2012 paperwork to the appointment.
Centers will be closed Monday.

Downtown ALLIANCE TO OFFER ACTIVITIES
The Downtown Las Vegas Alliance, a nonprofit corporation composed of public, private and nonprofit downtown Las Vegas stakeholders committed to enhancing growth in the area, is scheduled to organize Fall In Love With Downtown .
Downtown businesses are set to offer specials during business hours Thursday . Businesses and offers include:
n Lady Silvia, 900 Las Vegas Blvd. South, plans to offer free champagne for women from 6 to 8 p.m.
n Vexed By Design, inside Art Square at 1017 S. First St., No. 185, is set to offer 10 percent off all spa gift baskets.
n Glamorous Doodads, 1039 S. Main St., plans to offer 25 percent off in-store purchases.
n Inside Style, 1119 S. Main St., is set to offer a free romantic cinnamon candle gift with any purchase.

YMCA OFFERS DEAL TO JOIN
In honor of American Heart Month and Valentine's Day, the YMCA of Southern Nevada is set to offer up to $75 in savings on a new individual or family membership and a free pedometer for those who join between Thursday and Saturday .

GARDENING CLASS PLANNED
The Univeristy of Nevada Cooperative Extension is scheduled to host a workshop on gardening in small places from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Lifelong Learning Center, 8050 Paradise Road.
Topics to be covered include types of containers to use, potting mixes, using artificial light and success with seeds.
Class space is limited, and pre registration is required. The $25 fee includes class materials.

TALK TO FOCUS ON IGUANAS
The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is scheduled to host its monthly Herpetological Society meeting beginning at 7 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Lifelong Learning Center, 8050 Paradise Road.
Speaker Doug Mader is set to present his study on controlling the green iguanas of the Florida Keys.

FEB. 23 EVENT TO AID 16-YEAR-OLD
CHEMOTHERAPY PATIENT
Las Vegas-based charity Cancer Train of Southern Nevada is scheduled to host a Cut-A-Thon to benefit 16-year-old Leah Goldberg, who is undergoing chemotherapy for a recently removed cancerous brain tumor.
The event is to take place at Smokin' Hot Hair Salon, 2185 E. Windmill Lane, from 3 to 6 p.m. Feb. 23.
Participants can purchase a manicure and pedicure or a haircut for $10.

BOCCE LEAGUE SEEKING PLAYERS
The Italian American Bocce League, which plays Wednesday and Thursday nights at Myron Leavitt and Jaycee Community Park on the southeast corner of Eastern and St. Louis avenues, is scheduled to host a sign-up for new players at 7 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Italian American Club, 2333 E. Sahara Ave.
