ART GALLERY GIVES TO AREA HOSPITAL

Martin Lawrence Galleries inside The Forum Shops at Caesars, 3500 Las Vegas Blvd. South, recently presented representatives from the University Medical Center Trauma and Burn Care Center with a check for $5,669.

The donation represents proceeds raised through ticket sales and a raffle from the recent The Art of The Party gala hosted at the gallery.

Furthering the partnership between Martin Lawrence Galleries and the UMC Trauma and Burn Care Center, a portion of proceeds raised through sales at the gallery's public art auction set for Saturday will also support the c enter.

two-mile walk, THREE-MILE RUN
TO BENEFIT CANCER PATIENTS

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas is set to host This One's for the Boys, a two-mile walk and three-mile run, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday on the UNLV campus, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway.

The event will benefit cancer patients through nonprofit groups the 21st Century C.A.R.E. Foundation and the Las Vegas chapter of the Us TOO prostate cancer support group. The event is sponsored by 21st Century Oncology.

MASTER GARDENER TO HOST CLASS

Clark County Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Helen Brown plans to instruct a fall gardening class at the Family Resource Center at University Medical Center, 1120 Shadow Lane.

The cooler weather gardening class is set to begin at 10 a.m. Oct. 2. The class is free and open to the public.

SPRINGS PRESERVE announces
Day of the Dead building contest

The Springs Preserve, 333 S. Valley View Blvd., is looking for participants for it s Day of the Dead building contest.

For its fourth annual Day of the Dead celebration, the nonprofit will award $5,000 to the person who builds the best altar and Catrina sculptures out of recycled materials. All art pieces will be on display during the two-day event in November.

Newborns in need chapter to host sleeper drive Saturday

The Southern Nevada chapter of Newborns in Need is slated to host a sleeper drive from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Sin City Knit Shop, 2186 E. Windmill Lane.

The organization, which provides resources for newborns in need, is looking for sleepers sizes preemie to 4T.

For every sleeper donated, a person is supposed to get a raffle ticket to win prizes such as gift cards to local restaurants.

COATS FOR KIDS DRIVE TO KICK OFF
MONDAY AT ALBERTSONS

The 13th annual Coats for Kids drive is scheduled Monday through Nov. 3 at Albertsons stores across the valley.

Bring gently used coats to any Albertsons store and place them in the marked box at the front of the store. Aramark Uniforms will pick up the coats and drop them off at Al Phillips The Cleaner, which has cleaned all the coats free for the past 13 years. They are distributed to children in need by The Salvation Army's Family Services.

As part of the Lucky 13 theme for this year, anyone who donates a coat can enter a drawing for one of 13 pairs of free tickets to see Carrot Top's show a the Luxor. Entry forms are available at the Albertsons service desks.

SIGN UP FOR SATURDAY
NATIONAL LANDS DAY CLEANUP PROJECT

A cleanup project in honor of National Public Lands Day is planned from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

The Bureau of Land Management plans to conduct maintenance work at Oliver Ranch. Volunteers experienced with power tools are needed to help remove unwanted materials from a historical site.

GRIEF CAMP TAKING APPLICATIONS

Applications are being accepted for Camp Solari, which offers a nurturing environment for children 6 to 17 and their surviving caregivers to learn to cope with grief. The next camp is planned for Oct. 12-14 at the Mount Charleston Lodge, 5375 Kyle Canyon Road.

All weekend activities, including art, music, talk therapy, drumming, dancing and nature walks, as well as lodging, meals and materials, are free to camp participants. For an application, visit

VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT
FOR AARP TAX PROGRAM

AARP Tax-Aide NV, which prepares free personal income tax returns for residents in the lower- to middle-income brackets, is seeking unpaid volunteers to prepare taxes, greet clients and program computers in early 2013. Training is scheduled for Jan. 7-11 on the west side of the Las Vegas Valley and Jan. 21-25 on the east side.
