VIEW STAFF TO MEET WITH READERS
THURSDAY AT CLARK COUNTY LIBRARY

Staff members from View Neighborhood Newspapers will be available to discuss local news coverage with readers of the Paradise/Downtown edition from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the large conference room of the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.

SPRING EGG HUNT PLANNED AT DULA GYM

The Dula Gym, 441 E. Bonanza Road, is set to host a free egg hunt from 10 a.m. to noon March 30.

Those who bring a canned good or nonperishable food item will receive an extra ticket to win a prize egg. Donations will be delivered to Three Square food bank.

LIBRARY PLANS HEALTH INSURANCE WORKSHOP for MONDAY

The Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road, plans to help answer residents’ Medicare questions during the Nevada State Health Insurance Assistance Program Workshop from 3 to 4 p.m. Monday inside the library’s conference room.

Volunteers and counselors from the Nevada Aging and Disability Services Division plan to give a free 30-minute presentation and then answer questions.

Topics to be covered include programs for Medicare beneficiaries, their families and caregivers; how recipients can protect themselves, detect and report Medicare fraud and abuse; programs to assist with Alzheimer’s and other chronic diseases; and how people on lower or fixed incomes can get help with the Medicare Part D premiums, deductibles and co-pays.

GOLDEN RAINBOW TALENT SHOW
ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS

Golden Rainbow, a nonprofit organization that provides housing and direct financial assistance to men, women and children living with HIV-AIDS, is accepting talent submissions through 5 p.m. April 5 for its 27th annual Ribbon of Life fundraising event.

Ribbon of Life is set to take place at 1 p.m. June 30 at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, 361 Symphony Park Ave.

This year’s show, “Tributes,” is to showcase a spectrum of tribute-themed performances, including contemporary, classical, Broadway, movies, pop, hip-hop, television and political comedy. All singers, dancers, performers, artists and choreographers are invited to showcase their best original numbers for a chance to participate.

Golden Rainbow is seeking thrilling acts that encompass a complete theatrical experience and have not been performed in Las Vegas. Talent may include solos, duets, a cast of fewer than 10 performers and a large cast or montage acts.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL TOURNament
VIEWING PARTY SET AT THE EL CORTEZ

The El Cortez, 600 E. Fremont St., plans to host a viewing party for the Men’s NCAA basketball tournament in its Fiesta Room.

The party is set to be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. The viewing party is set to feature deals on food and beverages.

REGISTRATION BEGINS FOR ANNUAL
HELLDORADO DAYS PARADE

Applications are being accepted for participation in the 2013 Las Vegas Elks Helldorado Days parade.

Floats, equestrian units, marching bands, performers, car clubs, motorcycle clubs, motorized vehicles, walking groups and others are welcome to participate.

Entries should be themed on the traditions of past Helldorado Days, what Helldorado Days mean now, and/or the birthday of the city of Las Vegas. Each entry will be judged on appearance, theme and creativity. Participants will be notified after the parade if their entries won.

The parade is set to start at 5 p.m. May 18 downtown and is expected to last about two hours. The parade route heads north on Fourth Street from Gass to Ogden avenues.

There is no fee to participate. The application must be submitted no later than April 29. The first 120 qualified applications will be accepted.

The 2013 Helldorado Days celebration and rodeo is scheduled for May 16-19 between Stewart and Mesquite avenues and Las Vegas Boulevard and Seventh Street. The Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association rodeo will immediately follow the parade.

CONTEMPORARY ARTS CENTER
SEEKS ENTRIES FOR ITS JURIED SHOW

The Contemporary Arts Center, 107 E. Charleston Blvd., is accepting submissions until 5 p.m. March 29 for its annual juried show, an opportunity for exposure for participants working in contemporary visual arts.

National and international artists 16 or older may submit a maximum of five works completed within the last 12 months and not exhibited in a previous Contemporary Arts Center exhibition.

More than $3,000 is planned to be awarded to the winners.

Work must be submitted digitally through the center’s website, lasvegascac.org.

Contemporary Arts Center members must pay an entry fee of $25 for the first two works and $10 for each additional entry, with a limit of five.

Nonmembers must pay an entry fee of $35 for the first two works and $15 for each additional entry, with a limit of five.

Submissions must be paid by credit or debit card. The payment does not guarantee art will be included in the exhibition.

All works must be available for sale, the Contemporary Arts Center receives a 30 percent commission.
