SAFESPLASH USES INDOOR POOL
AT AGASSI FACILITY

SafeSplash Swim School has partnered with 24 Hour Fitness and Agassi Super Sport, 2090 Village Center Circle, to offer children’s swim lessons. Group class size is limited to a maximum of four students per instructor. All instructors are CPR-certified and have had years of experience working with children of all ages. HUMANA GUIDANCE CENTERS SPONSOR WALKING GROUPS

Humana Guidance Centers are offering free walking groups led by a certified personal trainer. The program aims to positively impact seniors’ health by motivating and engaging them to take action and improve their fitness level and mental outlook by learning the proper walking and stretching techniques.

Each participant will receive a free pedometer and at the end of each outing can upload their steps at a Guidance Center computer kiosk or at home to tracks steps taken, distance and calories burned.

GOLF SUMMERLIN OFFERING DISCOUNTS
FOR MILITARY PERSONNEL

Golf Summerlin plans to offer discounted rates to active military personnel at its Highland Falls, Palm Valley and Eagle Crest courses.

Current members of the military will receive 50 percent off with a paid customer. On Memorial Day and Veterans Day, active duty military personnel can tee off for free with a paid customer.

Golf Summerlin also encourages juniors to hone their skills on the course. Golfers 17 or younger will pay $10 when accompanied by a paying adult.

REGISTRATION FOR SUMMER CAMPS
TO START FRIDAY

Summer camp registration is set to being Friday at clarkcountynv.gov/parks, in person at four Las Vegas Valley recreation centers and by mail. Camps are available for children 8 to 15 and take place at Camp Lee Canyon. Space is limited, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Tuition for each camp is $400 per child and includes all meals, snacks, activities, supplies and an official camp T-shirt. Camps are set to begin on a Sunday afternoon and end on a Friday evening.

A camp open house and early-bird registration event is planned from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Mountain Crest Neighborhood Services Center, 4701 N. Durango Drive. Meet camp staff members and enjoy free hot dogs and s’mores. Participants must register in person only at Mountain Crest to receive the early-bird camp tuition fee of $375. A deposit of $100 is required.

Omni Discovery Camp is for children 8 to 12 and is planned for July 14-19. This year’s slated instructors will come from the Sign Design Theatre, Airborne Raptors, Roos-N-More and Mad Science.

On the Edge Camp is for children 13 to 15 and is planned for July 21-26. This challenging outdoor adventure camp is set to feature a high-ropes challenge course, mountain biking, hiking, a one-night tent camp out under the stars and a dance with a live disc jockey.

Campers will stay in dormitory-style cabins supervised by trained counselors. A professional caterer and registered nurse are part of the staff.

Besides Mountain Crest, parents can register their children in person at: Sunset Park Administration Building, 2601 E. Sunset Road; Desert Breeze Community Center, 8275 Spring Mountain Road; and Hollywood Recreation Center, 1650 S. Hollywood Blvd.

SET TO SUPPORT CAMP FOR TEENS

Help a camp for troubled teens when the Wranglers take on the Colorado Eagles, slated for 7:05 p.m. Saturday at the Orleans Arena, 4500 W. Tropicana Ave.

Henry’s Place has secured a special discount ticket price with a portion of its ticket sales being donated to Henry’s Place. Individual tickets for the Wranglers start at $19.50, with the fundraiser tickets set at $15.

COED FLAG FOOTBALL REGISTRATION OPEN

Coed fall flag football registration for players ages 6 to 14 is open through Friday. League play is set for March 16 to May 11.

The cost is $75 per person and includes an NFL team jersey and shorts. A birth certificate is required to register. Volunteer coaches are needed. Cost includes a postseason tournament. No games will be scheduled for March 30.

WAC basketball tournament set
for march 12-16 at orleans arena

Consisting of 18 basketball games featuring men’s and women’s teams, the Western Athletic Conference basketball tournament is set to return March 12-16 to The Orleans Arena, 4500 W. Tropicana Ave. This year’s competitors include Denver, Seattle, University of Texas at San Antonio, Idaho, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State, San Jose State, Utah State, University of Texas at Arlington and Texas State.

All session ticket packages start at $135 and include access to each men’s and women’s tournament game. Fans who wish to attend only the women’s tournament can purchase ticket packages starting at $50. Single-game tickets will be sold only on the day of the game. TEAM IN TRAINING BEGINS
FOR THE LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA SOCIETY

The Southern Nevada office of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society announces its 2013 season of Team In Training, which teaches participants to complete half and full marathons while raising money and community awareness about blood cancers.

More than 50 participants are committing to run the Nike Women’s Marathon Half in April in Washington, D.C., or the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon & Half Marathon in June.

Participants hope to raise, on average, $3,000 each to support the organization and run in the races dedicated to LLS.

MS RELAY SEEKS RUNNING PARTNERS

The MS Run the US 2013 Relay, which is slated for April 16 through Sept. 17 and is to be divided into 22 segments, is currently seeking 14 running partners to take part in each leg of this coast-to-coast run. Each segment covers approximately 140 miles of running over the course of six days. All proceeds raised will support MS research. The relay is set to begin in Los Angeles in mid-April and wrap up in New York City five months later.

The North Las Vegas Recreation Division’s Activity Schedule of classes, sports and recreation programs is now available.

WITH DISABILITIES PLANNED

New A.G.E. for those 22 or older with developmental disabilities is set from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the Centennial Hills Active Adult Center, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive. The program offers a variety of activities and special events that promote individuality, self-esteem and independence. The cost is $21 for one to three days, $28 for four days and $35 for five days each week.

ADAPTIVE RECREATION PROGRAM PLANNED FOR THOSE 7 TO 21

The Lorenzi Adaptive Recreation Program for those ages 7 to 21 with disabilities is set from 1 to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave. Participants can enjoy a new recreation experience every week, community outings, sports, games, arts and crafts, swimming and movies. The cost is $27 for one to three days, $36 for four days and $45 for five days, per person.

GIRLS ON THE RUN OF LAS VEGAS
SEEKS TEAM MEMBERS

Girls on the Run of Las Vegas is looking to start a team of girls in third through fifth grade in northwest Las Vegas and Summerlin. The group forwards a youth development program, where girls meet twice a week for discussions regarding empowerment, self-confidence and healthy living. The group incorporates stretching, games and running during that time. At the end of the 12-week program, the entire Las Vegas chapter gets together for a 5K race.
