Driver killed in accident identified as Henderson man

The driver who died after being ejected from his vehicle Saturday evening on state Route 160 was identified by the Nevada Highway Patrol Monday as 50-year-old William Daniel Taratko of Henderson.

The crash occurred east of mile marker 14 between Blue Diamond and Mountain Springs.

The incident occurred about 6:45 p.m. Taratko was traveling east when his 2001 Pontiac Firebird's tires went off the south roadway edge.

The Highway Patrol said he over-corrected the steering to the left and his car rotated counter-clockwise across the centerline. The Firebird's right side struck a guardrail and caused Taratko, who was not wearing a seat belt, to be ejected.

Taratko died at the scene.Contact reporter Antonio Planas at aplanas@reviewjournal.com or 702-383-4638.
