Ex-lab tech at Children’s Heart Center arrested in ID theft case

A lab technician at the Children’s Heart Center Nevada who had access to patient files containing personal information was arrested two months ago on suspicion of identity theft, the center’s attorney said Friday.

Computer specialists are investigating and the company is cooperating with law enforcement, said Jennifer Coughlin of Lewis Brisbrois Bisgaard and Smith LLP Attorneys.

In a press release, she said the technician, no longer a lab employee, might have had access to patient names, medical information, contact information, Social Security numbers and insurance information.

The employee, who wasn’t identified, was terminated after her Feb. 3 arrest.

Children’s Heart Center operates at three locations in Las Vegas.

The center is reaching out to its clients and providing them with a “confidential privacy line” and access to free credit monitoring through the three major credit bureaus.

The privacy line can be accessed 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at 888-414-8022, with the reference number 5462033015.
