Ex-Las Vegas doctor accused of sexual assault gets probation
May 14, 2014 - 1:32 pm
A former Las Vegas doctor accused of sexually assaulting female patients was sentenced to five years of probation for a lesser charge Wednesday.
Karl Fazekas was arrested in 2010 on six counts, including sexual assault, attempted sexual assault and open and gross lewdness.
In October, Fazekas cut a deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty via an Alford plea to non-sexual coercion. The plea meant he did not admit guilt but agreed that prosecutors could prove their case.
As part of the deal prosecutors dropped all but the coercion charge against Fazekas. But he’s also no longer allowed to practice medicine.
In 2010, the State Board of Medical Examiners suspended Fazekas’ medical license “due to Dr. Fazekas’ apparent pattern of inappropriate touching and conduct towards female patients.”
Three years later the board found Fazekas guilty of two counts of “engaging in conduct that brings the medical profession into disrepute.”
Fazekas was fined $5,000.
His medical licence expired in 2011, records show.
