Ex-NFL safety Darren Sharper faces sex assault charges in Las Vegas, too

Las Vegas is now added to the list of places where former NFL player Darren Sharper faces sexual assault charges.

Two counts of sexual assault have been filed against Sharper in Clark County, court records showed Friday.

An arrest warrant has been issued in Las Vegas for the 39-year-old former New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings safety, even though he remains jailed in California on rape charges.

He also faces similar charges in Louisiana and Arizona.

The Las Vegas charges stem from an incident in January 2014, in which Sharper is accused of sexually assaulting two women who were “physically incapable of resisting or understanding the nature of the defendant’s conduct,” according to a criminal complaint filed this week.

Sharper had a court hearing scheduled before Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Janiece Marshall for Friday morning, but the case has been continued until April 3. His attorney, David Chesnoff, declined to comment.

Each count carries a possible sentence of 10 years to life in Nevada state prison.

The 14-year National Football League veteran, who helped the Saints win the Super Bowl following the 2009 season, faces charges in California of drugging four women and raping two of them.

Los Angeles prosecutors have said they would ask to keep Sharper in their jurisdiction to proceed first with their case, even if another state formally seeks his extradition.

The Times-Picayune newspaper in New Orleans reported that district attorney there said Sharper will plead guilty in a deal to resolve charges in multiple states.
