Expect sunny skies with breezes in Las Vegas Valley on Saturday as dangerous heat looms

Sunny skies and excessive heat are expected for the weekend and for the first part of next week, according to the National Weather Service.

Saturday saw a high temperature of 101 degrees and a low of 79, meteorologist Chad Shafer said.

Laughlin hit 111 degrees Saturday and is expected to reach 116 degrees Sunday and 120 degrees Monday, which will be their hottest day of the year thus far, Shafer said.

The valley had afternoon breezes up to 27 miles per hour Saturday, he said.

There is an excessive heat warning from 10 a.m. Sunday to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Steele said.

Temperatures will increase to 108 on Sunday and a sizzling 113 on Monday, the weather service said.

Tuesday may reach 114, which would break the record of 111, he said. Then temperatures will decrease to 110 by Wednesday.

Mostly clear and sunny skies are expected for the end of the week, with a high of 108 for Thursday and 107 for Friday, he said.
