Female body found in desert near Lake Las Vegas

A woman's body was discovered in a remote desert area north of Lake Las Vegas on Thursday.

Her identity was not released.

Las Vegas police spokesman Bill Cassell said police were alerted to a body in the desert at 10:38 a.m. He said it was found near Lake Mead Parkway and Lake Las Vegas.

Homicide Lt. Lew Roberts said the death did not appear to be the result of a slaying. Although some of the woman's clothes were removed, there was no blunt-force trauma on her body, he said.

"It appears the potential cause of death was due to the elements," Roberts said.

Roberts guessed "delirium" caused by heat might have caused the woman to remove some of her clothes.

Roberts said cause of death will be determined by the Clark County coroner's office.
