Fire burns through apartment building near UNLV

A fire burned through an apartment building just southeast of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, on Thursday night, the Clark County Fire Department said.

Firefighters responded at 6:02 p.m. to a fire at the Sage Point Apartments 1400 E. Reno Ave., Assistant Fire Chief Sandra Baker said. The fire displaced five people, she said.

Firefighters confined the fire to one apartment, Baker said, but several adjacent apartment units were damaged by water and smoke.

No one was injured by the fire. The fire's cause was determined to be cooking; the estimated cost of its damage is $10,000, Baker said.
