Fire damages home in northwest valley Sunday

A fire Sunday night caused about $100,000 in damage to a home in the northwest valley.

Las Vegas firefighters responded to the home at 5509 Mare Way, near Cheyenne Avenue and Jones Boulevard, about 10:45 p.m.

A woman smelled smoke in the garage and discovered the washer and dryer were ablaze, authorities said.

It took firefighters about 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze, which was ruled accidental. No one was hurt.

The American Red Cross was helping the woman and her two children.
