Firefighter hospitalized after north valley house fire

Ten people were displaced and a Las Vegas firefighter was hospitalized after a blaze in the north valley Saturday afternoon, the department said.

The firefighter was sent to a local hospital for a "heat-related incident," department spokesman Tim Szymanski said, without explaining further. The firefighter is expected to be OK.

The blaze, with damage estimated to be at $135,000, started when a truck that was being worked on in front of the yard went into gear and crashed into the house near the intersection of Smoke Ranch Road and Michael Way, Fire Department spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

Crews were called to the accidental fire about 2:30 p.m. Flames were billowing from the roof when they arrived.

No one else was hurt, Szymanski said. The American Red Cross was helping the home's occupants.
