Gas leak forces evacuations at UNLV
July 15, 2014 - 11:21 am
Three buildings at UNLV were evacuated Tuesday morning after a gas leak.
UNLV police first reported a possible gas leak near the Thomas & Mack about 11:18 a.m. through their email notification system. They then confirmed that the leak was near a construction area behind the Environmental Protection Agency building.
A third party contractor hit an underground, 2-inch gas line, according to Southwest Gas spokesman Stephen Miller.
Campus security evacuated the buildings as a precaution, Miller said. The gas was turned off and repairs were being made just after noon.
Police said the EPA building was safe to enter at 12:13 p.m.
