Updated February 25, 2017 - 8:49 pm

A 4-year-old girl was critically injured Saturday afternoon after a car struck her at Sunset Park.

Police said in a statement the 1:50 p.m. crash happened when the girl separated from her parents in the parking lot of Sunset Park, 2601 E. Sunset Road. Witnesses and evidence at the scene showed the girl was running between parked cars when a black 2001 Acura MDX struck her.

The girl was taken with life-threatening injuries to the University Medical Center’s trauma unit, the Metropolitan Police Department said.

The family fought with the 23-year-old driver after the girl was struck. About 10 people were involved in the fight, Rogers said.

The driver of the Acura remained at the scene and did not show any signs of impairment, police said.

The crash is under investigation by Metro’s collision investigation section.
