Henderson man faces mob hit scheme allegations in New Jersey

Charles “Beeps” Stango is back in New Jersey facing federal charges of participating in a scheme to kill a rival crime syndicate member there.

The 71-year-old Henderson man, a reputed captain in New Jersey’s DeCavalcante crime family, was transported back to that state by U.S. marshals following his arrest here in March.

He remains in federal custody while he and his public defender come up with a bail package to earn his release.

Stango is charged with conspiring to kill the rival while living in the Las Vegas area on supervised release from a long federal prison term stemming from a 2003 racketeering conviction in New York. That case also involved a plot to kill a rival mobster.

His Henderson arrest was the result of a three-year investigation of the DeCavalcante crime family by the FBI in Newark. Nine other people, including his son Anthony, 33, were taken into custody in New Jersey.

Stango oversaw a street crew that distributed drugs and contraband cigarettes in New Jersey for the DeCavalcante organization, a wing of New York’s Gambino Mafia family, according to a federal complaint.
