Injuries reported in multivehicle crash in northwest Las Vegas

The driver of a delivery van who caused an eight-vehicle crash and injured several people in the northwest valley Wednesday morning may have suffered a medical episode, Las Vegas police said.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police Department said it received reports of a critical injury collision just before 7 a.m. at the intersection of North Durango Drive and West Elkhorn Road.

A 2015 Ford Transit Connect delivery van approached the intersection traveling southbound on North Durango Drive before rear-ending a 2009 Honda Accord. It’s unknown why the Ford’s driver didn’t stop, Metro said.

The Accord was pushed through the intersection, crossing paths first with a 2003 GMC Yukon traveling westbound and then a 2015 Ram 1500. After striking the GMC and Ram, the van and Accord hit four more vehicles that were stopped at a red light.

The drivers of the Ford delivery van and Honda Accord were transported to University Medical Center’s trauma unit. The Accord’s driver, a 33-year-old woman, is in critical condition, Metro said.

The 60-year-old man who drove the delivery van had minor injuries, but responding medical personnel said he may have suffered a medical episode.

One other person suffered minor injuries but wasn’t taken to the hospital.
